Vice Chairman of Hanoi Meets With Additional Secretary and Financial Adviser of Indian MEA

On June 14th, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Van Suu met with Dr. Sumeet Jerath, Additional Secretary and Financial Adviser, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India.

At the meeting, on behalf of the city leadership, Vice Chairman Suu expressed his delight to welcome Dr. Jerath in Hanoi. He briefly informed the visitor of the recent socio-economic situation of Hanoi and its future vision. Vietnam and India have built up a close and durable friendship through last 45 years, especially since the two countries upgraded their relations to the strategic partnership in 2007, he stressed. The leader of Hanoi hoped the Indian diplomat would make continued efforts to further develop and tighten the bilateral ties, thereby boosting the cooperation between Hanoi and Indian local regions, organisations and enterprises, particularly in IT.

In his reply, Dr. Jerath stated that 2017 marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of India – Vietnam diplomatic relations, the 10th anniversary of the establishment of their strategic partnership and the 25th anniversary of India – ASEAN partnership as well. The Indian Government attaches much importance to and wishes to deepen the cooperation with Vietnam, including the affiliations among the two countries’ local regions, said he. On this trip, his delegation is visiting Hanoi, Danang and Hochiminh City to evaluate the projects sponsored by the Indian Government. As for Hanoi, Dr. Jerath seemed happy that the “Vietnam – India Advanced Resource Center in Information and Communications Technology” project has brought about practical effects contributing to the socio-economic development of Hanoi. In view of the result, the Indian Government commits to further assist the Vietnamese capital to implement the second phase of the project in coming time.

Taking this opportunity, the representative of the MEA extend the official invitation to Hanoi’s leaders to visit India in order to study several of leading regions in IT and seek opportunities of cooperation in fields of their mutual concerns.
